Promoted to Brevet Maj. Gen. by the age of 25, Emory Upton was one of the most influential military thinkers to emerge from the Civil War. He led troops in all 3 Army  branches of the time: artillery, infantry, and cavalry. His writings from experience & observation of military practices overseas led to sweeping advancements to professional military education.
