Edward V. Rickenbacker

Cpt., U.S. Army Air Service

Rickenbacker was awarded the Medal of Honor for actions on Sept. 25, 1918.  During a patrol over the lines, he attacked seven enemy planes (five type Fokker, protecting two type Halberstadt). Despite the odds, he shot down one of the Fokkers and then attacked and sent down one of the Halberstadts.

The Medal of Honor upgraded one of his eight Distinguished Service Crosses from WWI.
