Henry J. Hunt
Brevet Brig. Gen., U.S. Army
The Union’s artillery advantage during the civil war can be attributed to Hunt. The artillery instructions he helped write in 1861 served as the primary doctrine while his tactics and leadership sealed decisive victory of several of the most significant battles, including Gettysburg. A devoted leader, his service continued post-retirement as governor of the Soldier’s Home in Washington, D.C.
