Brig. Gen., U.S. Army


A graduate of West Point, this Buffalo Soldier taught military science, served as a military attaché, and fought with distinction during the Philippine-American war.  Later, as Military Superintendent of Sequoia and General Grant National Parks, he and his team blazed trails, built roads, produced maps, and more.  His work ethic, academic leadership, and devotion to duty  have been credited foundational to his success despite extreme adversity.
