Anna Maria Lane
Camp Follower, Continental Army
Anna Maria Lane was one of the few documented females to fight during the Revolutionary War. Alongside her husband, disguised as a man, she fought in campaigns in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. In 1802, she served as a nurse in the military hospital. She would go on to receive a military pension with the note that read: “in the Revolutionary War, performed extraordinary military services at the Battle of Germantown, in the garb, and with the courage of a soldier.”
